About Pécs

The city of Pécs is located in the South-West corner of Hungary, close to the Croatian border. It’s southern side is flat, but the northern part of the city is lying on the downhill of Mecsek. It is not a surprise why Romans, who came from the Mediterranean, felt like home in these parts, and it feels certainly the same for Italian people even today. Without any doubt, Pécs is the most “italian-like” city of Hungary. Have you ever seen the Széchenyi square on a hot, sunny day, or the white-hot rocks of the Mosque, or ever walked across the Jókai square in a peaceful afternoon, you could feel like being in Italy. If you come from the direction of Harkány, do not forget to take a look at the city: it is just as if you were traveling between the hills of Toscana or Lazio. (by György Pánics)

Accomodation

Hotel Palatinus

With its historic monuments, cultural events, charming streets, thermal baths, fine wines and scenic hiking routes, Pécs is understandably one of Hungary’s leading tourist destinations – and Hotel Palatinus is among its most beautiful buildings! Entering the grand lobby is like stepping into a different era, and Art-Nouveau masterpieces like the stunning ballroom – where Béla Bartók once performed – continue to enchant guests to this day.
The hotel is also an excellent base for exploring, located just off the main square in the historic old town, and next door to shops and restaurants.
